The first thing that I could relate to was in slide 7. Stereometry, which is a method of cutting solids to specified forms and dimensions(as defined in the lecture), it also means measuring of volumes. This was one way that I sketched some of my prisims, volumetrically. I had the idea from looking up statistics (graphs etc) of world population, which is what one of my client's quote was about.
The principle of discontinuity also has a role in approaching my final designs and sketches (assuming my sources are correct). By forcing interruptions and looking at other ideas and concepts I was able to think of sketching volumetrically.
A component of the design brief that related to slide 7 is all of the different lighting techniques. Specifically Umbra (the dark core, the shadow within), Tenebrae (darkness) and Mezz ombra (semi darkness). We are asked to design two labs, places where "more thought" and new ideas can develop. Enlightenment is what scientists try to achieve, when a discovery is made, or an idea is propagated, they are scientists coming out of the darkness. Notice that none of the words mean complete light, this is because in the world of science nothing is ever completely known, theres ongoing research for coming out of umbra, through tenebrae and mezz ombra.
